Converging Evidence Attribution Rubric
A transparent and repeatable framework for evaluating whether a later scientific work is more consistent with independent convergence or warrants closer review for possible unattributed use.
What the Rubric Evaluates
The rubric evaluates the documented relationship between an earlier published framework and a later scientific work. It separates ordinary scientific convergence from evidence that may justify closer attribution review.
One Later Work
Each assessment evaluates one identified paper or model against a dated framework and its supporting publication record.
Documented Record
Scores rely on dates publications access pathways structural comparison correspondence and other sources identified in the study report.
Analytical Classification
The grade indicates where the documented pattern falls on a continuum from higher concern to stronger support for independent derivation.
Core analytical boundary
Scientific facts mechanisms proteins pathways and similar conclusions are not treated as evidence of unattributed use by themselves. The analysis considers timing access development history and the specificity of any shared selection arrangement coordination architecture or expression.
A Consistent Four-Step Review
Every study is evaluated through the same sequence so that the basis for each conclusion can be inspected and challenged.
Verify the dated public record for the earlier framework and the later work.
Document publication timing development history access pathways and correspondence.
Separate shared facts from distinctive organization relationships architecture and expression.
Assign each score using published criteria and explain the evidence supporting it.
Six Evidence Dimensions
Each dimension receives 1 to 5 points. Lower scores indicate greater concern. Higher scores indicate stronger support for independent derivation. Intermediate scores are used when the available evidence is mixed incomplete or genuinely intermediate.
Temporal Relationship
Compares the dated framework record with the earliest documented record for the later work.
Dissemination Window
Measures how long the framework was publicly available before the later work appeared.
Publication Timeline
Evaluates the documented duration and independence of the later work’s research and publication history.
Exposure Likelihood
Assesses documented contact affiliation public circulation and other plausible access pathways.
Structural Specificity
Distinguishes general scientific overlap from distinctive similarity in organization architecture sequence or expression.
Documented Response
Records the institutional or author response after notice as contextual evidence rather than proof of derivation.
Non-Overlapping Grade Bands
Six criteria produce a total score from 6 to 30. The bands classify the documented pattern. They do not determine intent liability plagiarism or infringement.

Interpretation rule: A low score identifies a pattern warranting closer review. It is not a finding of misconduct. A high score supports independent derivation under the documented record but does not certify the completeness of that record.

Safeguards for Objectivity
The rubric is designed to make judgments visible rather than implicit. These safeguards define how the analysis should be applied and updated.
Every factual score should cite a dated public record correspondence publication or other inspectable source.
The same definitions and directional scoring rules should be applied to every study before the outcome is known.
Reports should identify what is documented what is inferred and what remains unknown.
Independent convergence shared literature standard methods and coincidental similarity should be considered explicitly.
A score should be revised when material new evidence changes a criterion and the reason for the revision should be recorded.
The grade is an analytical screening result. It is not a legal adjudication or institutional finding of research misconduct.
